Dave Cornthwaite is an all-round self propelled human, record-breaking adventurer, author, public speaker, social projecteer (it is a word), maker of little films and founder of SayYesMore, a social enterprise and community that nudges people towards finding out just what they’re really capable of.
In 2011, Dave descended the Mississippi River from source to sea by standup paddleboard, a world record 2500+ mile journey. The paddleboard which Cornthwaite used was the Lakeshore River Rover.
Check out this cool video of the World Record SUP expedition….
Cornthwaite’s journey, the Mississippi Expedition, began on June 20th, and took three months, winding through the Upper Lakes and through several major cities, including St Louis, Memphis and New Orleans.
The Expedition aimed to provide a platform for standup paddleboarding as a healthy, enjoyable sport, linking communities along the waterway, encouraging an appreciation of the Mississippi River through sport and travel as well as highlighting the issues faced by the river.
Cornthwaite also used the expedition to raise money for the AV Foundation and CoppaFeel! The AV Foundation works in East African schools and communities developing water system infrastructure to ensure the availability of electricity and safe, potable water for all. CoppaFeel! raises awareness of breast cancer.
